Wow….great job Corey..!!..lots better than most…Im always interested in current prices…especially as I said in my email, for a GOOD standard of living, which I see U have…I’ve actually seen a few of those living on that $500 +- in the PI….but I wouldnt call it living….From your examples, I figure my original idea of +- $3000 a month in Dumagette for me n a girl, with diving n travel thrown in, will be just about right…Thx again, Scotty

cable -$50

helper/maid – $60
Laundry – $20

figure $1200 – $1500 month in a place like Dumaguete which has great diving and is a really nice town. Forget Davao. Ugly place and ugly women

Doug, If you are relally set on Davao (I would strongly consider living elsewhere) check out the area South of the city in the vicinity of APO Golf Course. Called Talomo I think. You can apply for residency once you are married and it will take about 1 1/2 yrs.

Traveled to the Phlippines in 2001 and fell in love the view of Taal Lake and we bought three lots in Laurel, Batangas. We will be moving there in 2014. We own a townhouse in Cavite where a niece and nephew live who will be our help when we move. We were told it helps to have family working for you to control the maids. My wife’s sister and brother in law had problems in the past with money stolen. We are young but our retirement and pensions will easily keep us all well into our Golden Years……

Looks like you had food poisoning because they did not wash their hands before handling your food. They also probably did not rinse the vegetables well. I hope you both get well soon from this. I probably wash my hands more than a 100x here at the hospital a day during my shift. They are very strict here when it comes to handwashing.

Well this particular steak was not very good as it was from an older stock. The hamburger we made from it was awesome. We will be getting 11kg of better stock sirloin from Umalag Farms when we pass through CDO on the way to Davao in April

Ha! Ha! love the jokes. I miss those times when I was living back in Manila and having an all around caretaker. When my family left for the USA, they left behind our trusted caretaker for many years. To make a long story short, after many years of no communication, I received a letter from her. That started my correspondence via snail mail. When I went back to Manila last year and stayed for 3 weeks, I had my old caretaker take care of me and my daughter while we are there on vacation. She is a really hard worker. For someone to decide to retire in the Philippines and afford help is something I long to have because I will afford it when living in the Philippines. That is one of the reasons why I read expats blogs when living in the Philippines. You give honest insights and don’t sugar coat anything.
